As far as artists go, few words can be written about Papercuts without noting his sincerity. His sound is definitely is one of expectant sounds. With a narrative that doesn’t steer far from its opening which is that it’s a cover of a Leonard Cohen song. The reality of it is that it’s much more than that.
The weight of the original is still here with Cohen’s touches throughout. As Papercuts performs he takes much of the songwriter’s gaze. The way he hits the chorus has much of that Cohen sound yet here there’s more intimacy perhaps from the soft measure in which he tells his tale. The darkened people within the video or the fact that you can hear the ocean when the water rushes close. The notes are heartfelt which is all that matters here. The way the song closes up is simply beautiful within its scope or the original.
The song is ready to view above or on YouTube. It can be streamed wherever you listen to music. Papercuts is available to catch in person on February 10 at Gold Diggers in Los Angeles, Ca until February 26 at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, Ca.
