In the grand spectrum of music, Superchunk seemingly has figured it all out. Some place between noisy indie rock favorites and contained indie rock darlings, the band seems to know exactly who they are together. Now with a new album Wild Loneliness coming in February, the band have revealed a new song “Endless Summer.” while the song is also available as a seven inch single, it shows that this band knows who they are while others are still figuring things out.
The song opens like that of a Superchunk song, complete with hooky riffs and his signature vocal style. The lyric lead new video offers the band up with a melodic approach along with a new found way of constructing things. The band sounds like they’re firing on all cylinders here. Hitting on all spaces and shaped sounds here to reveal a tonal quality that still hits after all of these years. There’s a softness that mixes here with the harsher elements to craft a sound that feels familiar but different at the same time. As far as sounds go, Superchunk sounds like they’re at the top of their game. Bteween the guitar solo and the harsher notes, the band is hitting it hard which is exactly where we want them.
“Endless Summer” is available to stream on all platforms or it can be viewed above via YouTube. The new album Wild Loneliness from Superchunk will be made available on February 25 from Merge Records. Superchunk is on tour beginning February 25 at Ramkat in Winston-Salem, NC until April 10 at Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles, CA. The band’s tour dates can be found here.
