In music few artists can drop a tender and easy going song that grips you and doesn’t let go. It’s a difficult feat and one that Tomberlin does quite well. The easy going vocals and the singer songwriter hues within, her new single “tap” offers another side to the artist without losing you in the process. Off of her upcoming album I Don’t Know Who Needs To Hear This… coming in late April, the song takes you on a ride that you don’t want to end ever.
The song opens with a happy and diverse set of acoustic guitars and beats. Tomberlin’s vocals come forward and offer themselves with a freeing tone. The way she approaches the song hits perfectly with stretched out holds of verses. Her sound holds and doesn’t let go. The offering is magical and whimsical at the same time. The way she makes it feel like you’re hearing her for the first time is wondrous in its approach. The piano comes in and takes you to another place while she spins you into a sound that opens your ears. The song wraps around you and brings you into its space with ease as she sings against the mixture of tones while making you a fan of her sound.
The song can be heard above via YouTube or wherever you stream music. I Don’t Know Who Needs To Hear This… is available for preorder from Saddle Creek Records before its April 23 release date. Tomberlin is on tour starting April 20 in Paris, FR at L’Archipel until June 10 in Brooklyn, NY at Music Hall Of Williamsburg. Her tour dates can be accessed here.
