When the late great Jerry Jeff Walker passed in 2020, it seemed like another note from above that our time here isn’t forever. The songs that highlighted his career could have gone with him into the never forgiving times, yet his music seems that it will live on. With their new album Jerry Jeff coming on May 27, Steve Earle & The Dukes have offered up a rendition of his ten best songs for release. Feel free to stream their new song “Gettin’ By” below and hear their power in every note.
The grand strokes and easy going vocals at the front of the song. The sing song nature of the track has a singable note to it. Earle’s draw is present at every turn while the band picks up the tones. His vocals shine as the lyrics are made possible. The song has a real chill on the patio feeling and an easy going nature. The way he approaches the track gives way to guitar solos and violin trips that make this cover even better. When he comes in again the nature of the track continues to ring through and offer itself while Earle navigates its path on his own dime. The song wins though and offers the song up much like the original.
“Gettin’ By” can be heard above or wherever you stream music. Jerry Jeff is available for preorder from New West Records. The digital version is available May 27 with physical copies available August 26. Steve Earle will be on tour starting April 23 at Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN until September 6 through 9 at Camp Copperhead at Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY.
