When you think of early emo, the name Jim Ward comes to mind. The guitarist from At The Drive In has made quite the name for himself with his newest band Sparta. The name much like the duo has a regular place in emo heaven and still puts out classic sounding albums. The new album Sparta is a self-titled release sort of a rebirth for them. On their new album one of their new song “Until The Kingdom Comes” is anew sound that echoes their past while reforming their future.
The song is longer than expected but not noticeable. The lyrics are very different. The way the song yieds itself gives more away than you;d think. The group vocals add in for a well rounded feeling as does the bass lines. The vocals have a home town feel to them. In many ways this feels like older Sparta leading the way. The way the group unifies give it more strength. The song feels more realistic than you;d think. There’s more emotion and unrest here and the song melds together to become one.
The new single can be heard above or wherever you stream music. Their new album Sparta can be preordered from Dine Alone Records on October 14. Sparta is on tour starting September 20 at The Crofoot Ballroom is Pontiac, MI until October 15 at Soda Bar in San Diego, CA. Their tour can be tracked here.
