On new albums artists sometimes share who they really are. Other times they give us a mix of where they are in their lives at the time. Andy Shauf has mixed the two ideals into his new album. With his voice ringing almost on his new single “Telephone” he adds to the life of Norm. His new video is animated beautifully below.

There’s a quieted simplicity to the song that hits you all at once. Shauf’s timber high vocals open the song against a delicate piano. His easy going nature bumps against the drums with an intensity. Sometimes a faint instrument bears just his vocals and keeps you interested. At others he’s met with backing vocals to make the experience that more rich and deep, but it all works together here.

The song can be heard above or wherever you stream music. Norm is available for preorder from Anti Records before it’s February 10 release. Andy Shauf will be on tour starting January 20 at Wilmot United Church in Friedrichton, CAN until June 09 at Pumpchuset in Copenhagen, Copenhagen. His dates can be found here.
