When bands drop new music they can really throw us for a loop. It can be different and often polarizing. However for Squid things are just about right. Their new album O Monolith has a hint of difference but follows their spaces on point. The album should bring more fans their way and their new single “The Blades” should bring them forward. The way the song opens offers up an intriguing soundscape. The vast layers of tone follow a path of sorts and keeps the band more dissonant. The distanced sounds the band creates are on another level while keeping them relevant. The shouting keeps things deterred while the melody keeps you tuned in. The softer backing vocals make for a nice touch in this futuristic song.
